Women and Abuse?

If the question asked was answered directly, the poster could have just stated that a woman who is being physically abused can do positive things to help herself and her husband, without ever having mentioned divorce. The question that was really answered was, "Is it ok for a women to divorce her husband if she feels she has ever been physically, mentally, emotionally, or any other unspecific form, abused by her husband?"

The poster also paints themselves into a corner when he says, "Any man who hits a woman is not a true follower of Christ and thus cannot live out Ephesians 5:25" because they would have to conclude that ANY person who does ANY sin can NOT be a true follower of Christ.

I am afraid that in his haste to lift up divorce as THE solution, instead of seeking Biblical reconcillation, not only between spouses, but with God, the poster (Les Puryear)has ended up not seeking and applying the whole counsel of God and maybe should heed his own warning that he gives to a pastor who would recommend a woman stay in the covenant of marriage.

Wow!
I am amazed with some pastors, do they not study the word of God?
God has a plan of protection for a woman in those circumstances, and a church has a responsibility. I am not saying it would be easy, but to offer up divorce first is not not biblical. Then can Cleyo divorce me when I verbally abusive him ? lol! I must not be a true follower of Christ.(based on his conclusion)
Christ should have divorced my sinful-human minded soul a long time ago!

I think it is no wonder so many Christians are so confused about the issue, when there are "shepherds" out there teaching this sort of thing.

Hi!

Reading that post, I had to lift my jaw off the keyboard!
This man took the Scripture out of context to such a degree, you'd have to be spiritually blind not to see it!

No Christian believes anyone should be submissive to the point of abuse! Nowhere does Scripture encourage that.

Like everyone else who takes Scripture out of context to serve his agenda, it was obviously arrogant for this man to put words in God's mouth!

I am so thankful that I have a pastor who insists we let God's Word say what it says.

Debbie's right...he painted himself into a corner!

I love/hate it when you post something intended to draw out opinions. I have so many, I feel compelled to share. However, after reading the comments on your post and on the link's post, I agreed all on your post and w/those of Dave & Pastor Tommy on the link. I feel bad for the poster that he has seen so much abuse. I to have seen too much, and I am sure it doesn't compare to what he has seen. However, we fallen creatures tend to let our hearts do our thinking, which the bible clearly warns against.

Les,

We agree on more than we disagree. In linking I truly wanted to see what folks thought, which is why I didn't offer any commentary. I find it interesting that all women on my sight commented and men didn't touch it. :)
